Rangelands NRM Pilbara Coordinator, Tim Wiley gave a presentation at the Australian Rangelands Conference, that ran in Kununurra from 23-27 September 2012.
Tim’s presentation ‘Cattle, carbon, critter and culture – building a new rangelands’ looked at the opportunities that will become apparent when new tenures for land use are introduced in 2015. These new tenures may allow a wide range of land uses including livestock production, carbon offsets, biodiversity offsets and cultural uses.
Tim highlighted the ESRM process that has been used to develop several stations in the Pilbara as pilots. These pilots demonstrate a new vision of land use that creates values from cattle production, carbon offsets, natural biodiversity and traditional indigenous culture.
