One Rangelands NRM-funded project and one of our Project
Managers have been selected as a finalists in the WA State Landcare Awards and
the 2013 Regional Achievement and Community Awards.
The Roebuck Bay Working Group, managed by Kandy Curran in
Broome has been selected as a finalist in the Qantas Landcare Innovative Community
Group Award for the State Landcare Awards.
Linda Anderson, Project Manager for the Pilbara Mesquite
Management Committee has been selected as a finalist in the Landcare
Facilitator or Coordinator Award for the State Landcare Awards.
The Landcare Awards, now in their 23rd year, are about finding and recognising the achievements of those dedicated people who give up their time to care for our precious land and water resources.
The ceremony to announce the winners is being hosted by the
Governor, His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker AC CVO QC, at a function at Government House, Perth, on Wednesday 16 October 2013, from 3.00 pm-4.30 pm.
The Roebuck Bay Working Group has also been selected as a
finalist in the 2013 Regional Achievement and Community Awards: CSBP Environment Award. The award acknowledges groups who show a proven passion and
dedication to reducing environmental impacts in rural and regional areas. The Gala Awards Presentation will be held at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on
Friday 18 October 2013. The other finalists in this category are the Eyre Bird
Observatory, Mingenew and the North Dandalup Primary School.

About the Landcare
Qantas Landcare Innovative Community Group Award: This award
will be made to an outstanding and innovative community group that is working
towards sustainable land use and/or is undertaking on-ground action to protect,
enhance or restore an area on behalf of the community.
Landcare Facilitator or Coordinator Award: This award will
be made to a Landcare Facilitator or Coordinator who has demonstrated
outstanding achievements in establishing, linking, supporting and developing
Landcare and/or production groups/networks that participate in sustainable
farming practices and on-ground natural resource management, or implementation
of innovative land management approaches in peri-urban areas.
