Property planning in the Fortescue underway

[October 2014]

Two pastoral stations in the Pilbara were recently visited to continue the roll-out of Ecologically Sustainable Rangelands Management (ESRM) Plan initiatives.

ESRM plans provide pastoralists with landscape guidance on biodiversity and livestock productivity that take account of their values and priorities as leaseholders.

Pilbara Corridors Program Manager Ian Cotton said highlights of the visits were meeting with Gary the Manager at Hillside Station and Erica and Peter at Bonney Downs Station.

“The ESRM planning process reinforces the importance of managing to land systems, pastoral stewardship and pastoralist input for successful outcomes,” he said.

Hillside Station has already undertaken the ESRM planning process and is currently implementing water point improvements with Pilbara Corridors funding.

Bonney Downs has shown an interest in the process which will be coordinated through Biota, a service provider for the ESRM process.
