Rangelands NRM are pleased to announce the winners of the
2013 Kaz Collins School of the Air Photo Competition.
The overall first prize of a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Digital Camera goes to Eric (Year 2) from Kimberley School of the Air. Eric’s image ‘Dingo Freedom’ of dingo pups sitting above a waterhole impressed all of the judges.
Runner up was Saskia, a Year 3 student also from Kimberley School of the Air. Saskia’s photo ‘Dinner’ captures the moment a snake was about to feast on a frog. She will receive a Canon PowerShot D20 Waterproof Digital Camera.
The competition, which started in 2011 invited children living in the bush to submit photos of their thoughts on ‘life in the rangelands of WA’.
Children from all five School of the Airs (Kalgoorlie,
Meekatharra, Carnarvon, Port Hedland and Kimberley) took part.
Rangelands NRM Communications Manager, Teresa Belcher said the competition attracted 119 photos from 42 individual students.
“Once again, there were some great photos from all age groups and there are clearly a lot of talented photographers out there,” Ms Belcher said.
The competition awarded a first and second overall prize and
a first, second and third for the age groups Lower Primary (Kindy, Pre-Primary,
Years 1 and 2), Middle Primary (Years 3, 4 and 5) and Upper Primary (Years 6
Swish Design, Prevailing Wind Productions and Claremont Embroid Me sponsored each of the three age categories for the competition: Upper, Middle and Lower Primary, with Scitech and the WA Museum provided additional prizes and the Johnson Family (Kaz Collins’ parents) provided a donation to award all kids who enter with a small prize.
“We’ve got some fabulous prizes including a digital camera, a
compact camera, science kits, books, Snapfish vouchers, gorillapods and USB
wristbands,” Ms Belcher said.
All winning photos can be viewed on the Rangelands website http://www.rangelandswa.com.au/. Some of the images will appear in our 2012-13 Annual Report. A 2014 Calendar will also be produced.
